                          June 10

DELHI -- Clarence High School's
Cat Peters shot 72 Sunday to
edge Mercy's Danielle Fuss by
two strokes to win the New York
State championship at SUNY Delhi.

Peters (Section VI) finished with a
two-day total of 147. Fuss
(Section V) shot 76 Sunday after
an opening-round 73.

Krissy Unger (Section XI) and
Elizabeth Choi (Section VIII)
finished tied for third at 150.
Samantha Sessa (Section VIII)
was solo fifth at 154.

Section III champ, Nicolette
Darois, of Rome Free Academy,
led the local contingent, finishing
33rd with a 177 total.

RFA's Lilly Bulawa enjoyed the
experience that not many eighth
graders get to experience. Bulawa
finished tied for 43rd with a 186

"I had a really great time and it
was a fun experience," Lilly
Bulawa said. "I'm glad my first time
at states was fun and enjoyable."

MaryAnn Bulawa made states as
a seventh and eighth-grader, and
can relate to her sister's early
success. Despite not playing her
best golf this weekend, Bulawa, as
usual, enjoyed her third state
tournament in four years.

"I would have to say, I greatly
enjoyed meeting so many great
girls," said Bulawa, who finished in
47th with a 188 total.

Holland Patent junior, Rachel
Halwig got off to a rough start in
her second straight state
appearance. Halwig shot a 101
during Saturday's opening round,
but bounced back nicely Sunday
with an 89 to tie for 48th.
