Kull powers Old Forge to victory
at Class D Tournament
                                       May 23

NEW YORK MILLS - Old Forge senior,
Damon Kull shot 79 to win co-medalist,
while also leading the Eskimos to the team
championship during Monday's Class D
Tournament at Twin Ponds Golf &
Country Club.

Kull shared medalist with Alexandria Bay's
Jarrett Sweet. Remsen's Keith Smith shot
81 to finish third. Bishop Ludden's William
Wallace and Old Forge's Colin Criss tied
for fourth with 82s.

A total of 13 players (seven locals) from
Class D qualified for the Section III
Tournament at Seven Oaks Golf Course
in Hamilton.

The first round of sectionals is Thursday,
with the top 20 and ties advancing to
Saturday's final round. The top nine
finishers after the final round will
represent Section III at the state
tournament, June 5-6 at Cornell
University's Robert Trent Jones Golf

Old Forge finished with a 434 total, 17
strokes ahead of Alexandria Bay.
Cincinnatus (479) was third, while
Hamilton and Remsen (481) tied for fourth.

"Winning sectionals is a great builder for
our team," Old Forge coach John
Ehrensbeck said. "The kids have worked
hard and played through all kinds of
weather this season. It's a goal that I've
been shooting for for the past 11 years
and finally, but its really the kids that win it
for them, their school, and coach.

"I thought we had a great team this year,
along with Remsen, but to be undefeated,
league champs and now sectional champs
... as a coach it feels good, because you
know it doesn't happen every year, not in
a school our size. This also would nevera
have happened if it weren't for my
assistant coach, Don Haehl."
